Whitewood Barn Wedding in Edmonton

I can’t gush enough about this Whitewood Barn Wedding in Edmonton ! It is one of the most beautiful rustic barn wedding venues in Alberta and I had the BEST time documenting this big life event for the most wonderful couple.

Jason contacted me only a couple of weeks before the wedding as their original photographer couldn’t make it. I was just about to move to Alberta from Ontario so I was really going into this blind as I had no clue of where any venues or vendors were in Edmonton at that time.

We firmed up the timeline and what to expect from me being their photographer.

My style is very documentary and candid and I really gauged from our discovery call that this is exactly the kind of coverage they wanted to truly represent who they are as a couple and to make the day roll out as organically as possible. [I always recommend a discovery call to really make sure the couple and photographer are the right fit for each other, it’s so crucial to make the day run smooth]

I didn’t meet Brianna until the morning of their wedding. As I walked in and saw this stunning, elegant bridal gown hanging from a large mirror in the house  I could tell that this was going to be a classy and fun day!

The girls prep time was filled with such excitement, you could tell that this wedding was longed for by everyone. The Whitewood Barn has a lovely bridal suite for getting ready photos. It was well equipped and had a very homely and classy feel with a gorgeous staircase in the centre.

They decided they wanted a first look along the line of trees at the venue. Jason was wearing a dark green suit with a simple boutonnière which really complemented the decor.

Not only did Brianna do the first look with Jason, but she decided to also do a first look with her dad. That was extra special!

The ceremony space at the Whitewood Barn is completely secluded. Like a secret garden with rustic boho style chunky benches and a floral arch at the front. It was gorgeous.

Jason and Brianna decided to write their own vows to each other [one of the best things to witness, I think everyone should do this!] and the laughter and tears followed through to the reception with some truly heartfelt speeches by their loved ones.

They both mentioned to me that golden hour portraits were important to them and so I sneaked them out during the meal for some pictures on the grounds of the barn just before the sun dipped behind the trees. The sun flare coming out from behind the silo on the property was insane! Those who have worked with me before know that I don’t really ‘pose’ my couples. I just gently direct or prompt to really make the most out of the natural movements that happen between you. They make for the most candid and realistic representation of you as a couple.

After dinner, the party continued outside onto the patio area which joins onto the barn. This is where the first dances took place, surrounded by their loved ones. Then the party started with the DJ playing some epic tunes. This wedding had it all. there's definitely some ideas on ways to make your wedding day live on that have come from that day.

It was such an incredible day. Chris, the owner of Whitewood Barn was extremely accommodating and helpful throughout the entire day and there are so many opportunities for great pictures at this venue. Hidden in 40 acres of trees you would never know you were so close to the city.
