Helicopter Elopement in the Canadian Rockies

Holy smokes! This Helicopter Elopement in the Canadian Rockies was an absolute blast!

When I was new to the wedding photography industry, I could only ever dream of being involved in an intimate elopement in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, near to the Banff landscapes that is on most people's bucket lists.

I'd recently moved to Alberta from Ontario, where mountains just aren't a thing. Ashley & Nathan had reached out to me asking for photo and video coverage for their elopement. What I loved about this is that they also had their closest friends and family in attendance. It breaks that stigma that surrounds eloping. Yes, you can have your family and friends at your elopement!

They chose to get married in front of their closest relatives at Creekside Villa in Canmore. The view of the mountains served as the backdrop as they said their own personal vows to each other.

Before the ceremony, they wanted to spend some time together, soaking in their day without any distractions. They decided to head up in a helicopter to a remote part of the mountains in B.C to just be alone, to breathe each other in and prepare themselves for what they were about to commit. It was absolutely stunning and it's absolutely one of my favourite weddings that I've had the pleasure of capturing.

To top it off, the bride's sister was the officiant who got to marry her sister and her new husband. You could see and feel the excitement in the entire process.

Did you know that in Alberta you can apply to be a temporary marriage commissioner?

Words from the couple:

BOOK HER! I hired Sam as my wedding photographer in Canmore this past weekend. I could not imagine having someone else capture my day after spending the day with her! She was so helpful when planning out my timeline for the day and so easy to communicate with.

On the wedding day it felt like she was part of the family. She was just as excited for our special day as we were. Every guest thought that we had already been friends prior to the wedding because we got along so well.

If you want someone taking photos of you that will cheer you on and get excited about the moments she is capturing- hire Sam! She went above and beyond for us, days later everyone is still talking about how amazing she was.

She had so many ideas for photos and even let us sneak a couple previews on her camera while she was taking pictures and I can confidently say that her talent is UNMATCHED. I can't say enough good things, everyone at my wedding loved having her around, she played a major role during our special day and I am so so thankful for her. I will 100% be using her for future photos!!
