You’re engaged! Congrats! Now I’m here to help you with everything you need to know about getting married in Wainwright.
The Town of Wainwright is a small, vibrant town in East-Central Alberta that is filled with history and big opportunities. It has a bustling community and the beautiful scenery to go with it. It is completely understated as a place to get married in this region.
Location
Situated 2 hours east of Edmonton, at the intersection of Highway 14 and Highway 41, it was homesteaded in 1905 and still has some quirky, beautiful buildings among its’ architecture today.
Weather
As Wainwright is in the rural prairies, it can get extremely cold in the winter months, so if you’re planning a winter wedding, best to make sure you have adequate footwear and plenty of layers for those portraits!
That being said, even with the snow, it makes a stunning backdrop to any pictures.
The fall is beautiful along the Battle River, with the trees a deep orange and red against the contrast of the Battle River Bridge. It is a spectacular spot for pictures.
Venues
If you are wanting a church wedding, there are plenty to choose from depending on your faith. You can find a list of churches in Wainwright here.
If you are looking for something different, South Africa Guest Lodge is licensed to hold weddings and is a perfect place to have the whole thing, from prep, right the way through to the party. They have stunning gardens for pictures too!
Marriage licences can be obtained from Baughan Agencies who are located on Main Street in the centre of the town.
There are a couple of marriage commissioners based in Wainwright who are able to perform your wedding ceremony for you. You can search for one here. Make sure to also consider writing your own vows to make it even more special!
Photo locations
This is when Wainwright really spoils you! There are so many options when it comes for locations for your wedding photos.
If you are wanting woodsy with big skies then the Battle River Trestle Bridge out by Fabian is stunning. It has mature trees along the wispy grassed trail that leads down to the river. Not to mention the enormous trestle bridge that really takes your breath away the closer you get to it. It is beautiful in all seasons, just check in advance if you plan on a winter wedding as the road isn’t always accessible.
If you are more of a water-loving couple, you have both Arm Lake and Clear Lake, who both provide a waterfront area with a jetty.
